Fundraising event and new musical reading
Carolina Theatre Workshop is hosting “A Spotlight for New Voices” on May 3rd 2026, a fundraising event featuring a reading of a new musical by emerging and accomplished writer, Eric Sorrels, called The Gray Man.
This fundraiser will provide an opportunity to bring our theatre community and patrons together to witness exciting new work and invest in resources to champion the writers of tomorrow.

ABOUT ERIC SORRELS
Introducing our New Voice for this event, Eric Sorrels:
As a performer, Eric has worked regionally with North Carolina Theatre, Theatre Raleigh, and Nashville Repertory Theatre. Most recently, he appeared in Madame Clicquot at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and served as music assistant to Stephen Flaherty on Knoxville at the Clarence Brown Theatre. He is also the resident music director for the Voice Studio of Katy Wolfe.
His original work has been featured at Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, and the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. Current musicals in development include MĀYĀ (2025 London Workshop, 2023 ASCAP Workshop, 2021 NAMT) with Cheeyang Ng; The Phoenix (NSYCA Grantee, NAMT Frank Young Fund, Goodspeed Writers Grove, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat) with Desdemona Chiang and Cheeyang Ng; and The Gray Man: A Ghost Story in Three Hurricanes (2025 Knoxville New Works Festival).
Eric is the recipient of the 2024 Jonathan Larson Grant, 2024 Fred Ebb Award, ASCAP’s Lucille and Jack Yellen Award, and the Eric H. Weinberger Librettist Award. He holds a BA from the University of Tennessee and an MFA from NYU. @eric_sorrels
